Episode 1 Highlights:

It’s every parent's worst nightmare

Against all odds, a severely premature infant is healthy and thriving on donor mom’s milk at 5 weeks old. When the hospital switches her to formula, she falls sick quickly and requires bedside surgery.

She ultimately loses her fight against necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC).

Stats

  • 9,000 preterm infants per year develop NEC in the United States
  • 15-40% of infants with NEC pass from the disease
  • 45% to 61% of NEC survivors have neurodevelopmental disabilities
  • 15-35% of NEC survivors have severe, life-long gastrointestinal problems
